Two Angry Inches

The Origin of Love from Hedwig and the Angry Inch has a permanent spot on my Playlist. I love the 1998 John Cameron Mitchell/Stephen Trask rock musical, and I loved the film adapted from the musical that premiered a few years later. So, I am overjoyed that the edgy musical is making its way back to the New York City stage Spring 2014. 

But to Broadway???


And with clean cut sitcom star and revered Tony host - Neil Patrick Harris???

I am having a hard time visualizing NPH playing the East German transgender who has a botched sex change that leaves her with an "angry inch" - a role perfected on stage and film by John Cameron Mitchell. And I am having a hard time visualizing the typical Broadway goer - you know, that educated, 43 year old white female tourist - flocking to experience this cult favorite. 

Then again, NPH can be magnetic, and he says he can't wait to take on the "once-in-a-lifetime role.".

Completely separate from Hedwig news, there is a strange tabloid story about another "angry inch." Forty-nine year old Wesley Warren from Las Vegas had surgery to remove 140 lb testicles. The complex 13-hour procedure removed his oversized sac but left him with a "nub an inch long [that] doesn’t get any larger." 

It's nice to see though that Warren is grateful to be pulled out of the fire as he continues his recovery. But going back to NPH, I can't help but wonder if he is jumping into fire.
